"Four Minutes"

It was another dead end job for Jessika. She knew it. A small office in a smaller building in the slimy part of town---she sat for hours, calling strangers trying to sell them something and frequently getting hung up on. She needed the $7.35/hr. She had rent, a cat, and maybe school soon. She hoped.

The breakup had been bad. She did not tell her mom or her friend this. But, she was worried that leaving him would be worse then staying with him. When he walked in her small office, after hours this Friday night and sat with ease in front of her....she knew she has made a mistake.

There was no real conversation. Only his words, not even a full sentence, and then he was slipping on the leather gloves. She tried to back up, then run by him, but he had her by the throat and then on the ground.

She thrashed and fought him, kicking her lets, her heels clacking. She was feeling the effects, loosing hope---but made a play and caught him off guard.

She was free and tried to crawl away and out. But, he was not injured at all and grabbed her again--slamming her into the chair. Using her own headset, he created a make-shift garrote. This was tight---digging into her flesh. She arched and kicked her legs. Her face contorted, tongue lashing out.

Eventually, she shook and spasmed herself out of the chair and on the floor. This was the position he would finish her in. He always knew he would kill her. She lasted a while longer, her leg still wigging, a shoe came off and her dress hiked up.

When it was over, he took a look at what he accomplished. He figured he strangled her in about four minutes. Strange how relatively easy it was to make her go away. No more Jessika. He could rest easy now--not having to think about her out there in the world--possibly enjoying herself with someone else. He ended that.

Four minutes....

He got up and left.
